Tender, herby meatballs swimming in a rich tomato sauce. Serve with spaghetti or crusty bread for dunking.

Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 egg
  • 40g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • For the sauce:
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 100ml water

Method

  1. Mix the mince, egg, breadcrumbs, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Roll into golf-ball sized meatballs (around 16).
  2. Combine the tinned tomatoes, onion, garlic, tomato puree, basil, sugar, and water in the slow cooker.
  3. Carefully place the meatballs into the sauce.
  4. Cook on Low for 5-6 hours or High for 3-4 hours.
  5. Serve over spaghetti or with crusty bread.

Tips

Don’t stir the meatballs for the first couple of hours — let them firm up first or they may break apart.
