Mexican-style pulled pork that’s juicy inside and crispy outside. Perfect for tacos, burritos, or nachos.

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg pork shoulder, cut into large chunks
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, whole
  • Juice of 2 oranges
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Season the pork generously with cumin, oregano, chilli, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place onion and garlic in the slow cooker, then the pork on top.
  3. Pour over the orange and lime juice.
  4. Cook on Low for 8-10 hours until the pork falls apart.
  5. Shred with forks. Spread on a baking tray and grill for 5 minutes until crispy on the edges.
  6. Serve in tacos with salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

Tips

The grilling step is what makes carnitas special — it crisps up the edges while the inside stays juicy.
