Soft, cinnamon-spiced apples under a crunchy golden crumble topping. Proper British pudding.
Ingredients
- 6 Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 80g caster sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- For the crumble:
- 200g plain flour
- 100g cold butter, cubed
- 80g demerara sugar
- 50g porridge oats
Method
- Toss the apples with the caster sugar and cinnamon. Place in the slow cooker.
- Make the crumble: rub the flour and butter together until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the demerara sugar and oats.
- Sprinkle the crumble over the apples.
- Place a tea towel under the lid (to catch condensation and keep the topping drier).
- Cook on High for 2-3 hours.
- Serve with custard, cream, or ice cream.
Tips
The tea towel trick stops condensation dripping onto the crumble and keeps it crisper. Pop under the grill for 2 minutes if you want it extra crunchy.
